Professional Development and Workshops

Introduction to Disability Inclusive Curriculum

  • $600 - 2 hours

  • This introduces the Disability Inclusive Curriculum, its concepts and how to practically teach it in the classroom. It takes teachers through the free resources they can use and how they can be involved in the creation of lesson plans that have the approval of the disabled people they are having conversations about in the classroom.

  • Also available in an abbreviated asynchronous format for individual and asynchronous use (coming soon)

Disability pride and power

  • $300 - 1 hour

  • This workshop introduces the concept of disability pride and disability arts and how to introduce it into your school, college or university through disability pride clubs and societies. It provides you with access to resources and disability arts practitioners.

Disability History Revealed: key themes of the disability movement

  • $450 - 90 minutes

  • This professional development will help participants to gain a perspective on disability history, its key leaders, key landmarks, and most importantly, key ideas - both positive and negative - which have led to where we are today.

  • It will look at source material and be led by disabled people who have over 30 years of experience shaping these ideas.

  • It will introduce participants to the growing number of resources available to help teach and inform students about disability history, activism and advocacy.

Bringing Disability Inclusive Curriculum into your school

  • $1,000  - 2 hour workshop with follow-up 1 hour workshop after ~ 4 months for up to 20 participants

  • Action planning for a disability inclusive curriculum.

  • This professional development partners you with the disabled people who developed the disability inclusive curriculum. Together, you will create an action plan to introduce and evaluate a Disability Inclusive Curriculum in your school, your district or LEA.

  • This is a year long process in which we will work together to create and implement an action plan over a year and provide you with the resources and support you need to implement and evaluate it successfully.

Understanding disability from disabled people’s perspectives

  • $600 - 2 hour workshop

  • This professional development introduces participants to the Social Model of Disability which is a tool that identifies the discrimination and oppression that disabled people experience. Being able to identify this we can begin to create strategies to challenge and combat this.

  • This Professional Development also examines the language we use in education, in our work with disabled people and questions whether it is helpful. It also helps participants to deconstruct that language into positive language that can change practice and attitudes.

  • Finally, this Professional Development enables educators to look at curriculum through a disability lens and teach students about disability as a natural part of human diversity.

Incorporating disability into diversity

  • $650 - 2 hours

  • Disability despite intersecting with all identities is often left out of diversity policy and planning.

  • This workshop provides a rationale for including disability in diversity programs, an understanding of disability from a social perspective, examples of good practice and space for participants to create an action plan for inclusion.
